I like to dabble in a bit of running here and there. It’s something I started just before having kids, and I’ve found that since becoming a Mum, it’s a form of exercise that just fits in with my life, my budget and my mindset.
As it clearly states on my CV in ‘other interests’, I have a dream of one day running the London Marathon. To tell the truth, I only wrote that because my CV lacked something memorable, and it sounded better than ‘I like going to the pub and drinking prosecco with my mates’. Nevertheless, it has become a self fulfilling prophecy, and as my running has picked up pace, I actually do hope to complete this challenge and it’s now firmly on the ‘bucket list’ in my head.
RUNNING UP THAT HILL | I’ve driven past this field so many times lately and wanted to run along the path to see where it goes… so that was my run goal today. Turns out there wasn’t anything behind it, but glad I finally did it! Phone died at the top, seriously need to get one of those cases that charges your phone #runninghomeinsilence . . . . . #coolmumclub #fitfam #fitfamuk #momto10K #mumsthatrun #runningmum #nikerun #lovelydayforarun #runningrocks #rockingmummylife #happylittlebuttons #livingfearlesslyauthentic #capturingtheday #pinklinker #rememberingthesedays #thismamaloves #spring #nikerun #seenonmyrun #runstagram #runnersofinstagram #totsphotosnaphappybritmums #uniteinmotherhood
Every year I talk about signing up after seeing the marathon runners on TV; it takes me back to the day I went up to watch and cheer on a good friend, running in memory of the daughter we lost. It was such an incredibly moving experience, and as someone who has found the joy in running, it’s got to be the ultimate ambition. I was on a total high just standing on the pavement cheering out names of strangers and handing out jelly babies; I knew one day I wanted to be in the thick of it. A ballot entry each year could just leave it in the hands of fate to decide when is my time.
So what’s stopping me? Well in truth I have run through what’s involved with previous marathon runners, and I just think that my current set up would make it very tricky to put the training in. My runs tend to be sporadic in frequency and distance, and with so many other factors (like my shadow, the mouse) I just don’t want to put pressure on the running, the hubby, or the childcare situation in order to be out training regularly. With two young children, now is just not the right time.
That said, I could just do a Jade Goody? Run on zero training? Nah…maybe not.
ON FIRE | Just completed my first proper run since 02 Jan (resolution fail) and although I lost all power so had to face a technology free run *shock* I think I did about 4 miles? I’d forgotten that amazing buzz after a long run and it’s inspired me to get back on it. I’ve just applied for my first ever 10K official race and written to my MP about dangerous junctions on my route. Gotta love those post run endorphins… . . . . . #coolmumclub #mumsthatrun #running #runningmum #seenonmyrun @stravarun #stravarun #runnersofinstagram #runnerscommunity #runmummyrun #runuk #10k #fitfam #fitfamuk #runningblogger #mblogger #thisgirlcan #livingfearlesslyauthentic #lionessmama #capturingtheday #tribalchat #pinklinker
So, I have a plan. A plan to carry on as is, but with some smaller interim goals.
With my midweek runs varying between 4 and 7 miles, I reckon I’m ready for a 10K. So, I’ve signed up to do a local one next weekend, with my sister in law who has, for the record, run three marathons and is basically a machine.
As luck would have it, since signing up a month or so ago, my midweek runs have been somewhat non existent. Due to a combination of the Easter holidays, weekends away, and a change in the childcare set up I have had zero opportunity to get out. And believe me when I say I would pick a long run to clear my mind over a brunch, a shopping trip or a lay in these days – it’s just not happened.
So, with just one more week to get some warm up running in, I’m pretty daunted about seeing this through. My usual prop of running to tunes isn’t an option, and I’m not sure what this is going to feel like in a pressure situation.I’m basically relying on some kind of muscle memory. Still, there’s only one way to find out.
Watch this space, to find out how I get on, and see if the London Marathon dream is rapidly scrubbed off the to do list…
Last chance for a quick #10K in a week or two… question of the morning… is it cold enough to need an extra layer yet?… I went no. #mumsthatrun #coolmumclub #runningmum #thismamaloves #rememberingthesedays #lionessmama #pinklinker #mbloggers #fitfam #morningmotivation #saturdaymorning #saturday #autumnleaves
