I’d be lying if I said the Vileda 1-2 spray mop and cleaning solution we’d been sent was a novel product to review. In fact, we have been using it for 2 years now, so it’s actually a timely replacement to our well loved original.
When we first bought our home, the kitchen floor was covered in a hard ceramic tile, not that we really took much notice. At the time steam mops were the latest must have item and we grabbed one from groupon for thirty quid. It did a cracking job on those tiles, and when Tigs was drawing on the floor and redecorating with bean juice we never blinked an eye.
Two years ago, whilst undergoing our major home renovation project, we faced a decision on how to deck out the flooring of our new build. Covering 3/4 of the downstairs we toyed with wood (too hard to maintain?), tiles (too hard for small people heads to land on) and ended up deciding on some oak effect laminate spotted in our kitchen designer showroom. It matched the kitchen worktop perfectly, and looked just like the real thing. With a fraction of the price tag and some major wear and tear advantages we signed on the line and tagged it onto the kitchen purchase.
For the first week or so we used the steam cleaner on the floor, tentatively. It was only when our kitchen designer popped in to take some portfolio images that I remembered to ask how we should be cleaning the floor. To my horror (and in all honesty, aligned with my gut instinct) he advised that steam cleaners are a massive no no. And mop and buckets. Too much water in the joins could lead to the wood ‘blowing’, bubbling and eventually cracking and splitting.
Oh crap. So we have a two year old and a six month old, and we can’t mop the floor.
“So how do you recommend cleaning the floor then?”
“Best thing is to lightly spray with a suitable detergent and wipe”.
Right. This may have been a bit of an epic fail…as I imagined spending the next five years on my hands and knees wiping down the whole ground floor of the house.
So I set about finding a solution, and before long I spotted in Sainsbury’s the perfect gadget courtesy of Vileda and their 1-2 Spray mop and cleaning solution.
It’s exactly what I needed – a ready to use bottle of floor cleaning detergent which you pour down inside the handle of a spray mop. The trigger gun sprays at floor level and the microfibre pad allows you to wipe clean or deep clean your floor without soaking the joins. It’s worth a quick hoover first, like any mop, but this little gadget is amazing at getting our kitchen and dining room looking as good as new in minutes.
Our oak coloured flooring shows up sticky marks and smears quite dramatically, and the area under the island where the kids eat is quite frankly grim after a day of three square meals being chucked on it. So, a quick grab of a tool like this has been a total life saver, or should I say, back saver.
The microfibre pad is machine washable, and when it finally has seen it’s day, replacement heads can be purchased and popped on the mop. The solution is ready to use, and a little goes a long way due to the sparing quantity of the spray dispenser.
I think sometimes the simplest of designs are the best, and this product is one we haven’t had any need to replace or recreate. It does what it says on the tin, and with no fiddly tubes, leaky valves, buckets to kick over or leads to faff around with, it’s a pretty damn perfect go to for any Mum battling jammy floors.
We have no regrets about our laminate, and certainly it’s a massive thumbs up for the Vileda 1-2 spray from me. It’s made living with laminate a little easier on my poor old Mum Knees.
Disclosure: We were sent a Vileda 1-2 spray mop and solution in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
