Sharing 24 smiles; advent, @Smiggle_ style (#Ad)

Advent as we knew it back in the day was all about the excitement of opening a perforated piece of card and seeing what lay beyond the paper window. A star? A robin? A snowman perhaps? Or wait for it, when it got really exciting, a stable containing a postpartum Mary smiling at her recently birthed son of god.

But Advent for millennial kids is way more extra than that. The advent calendar of the nineties with it’s milk chocolate shapes under that oh so satisfying foil got blown right out of the water with the launch of mega advent calendars… filled with 24 days of gifts to take you right up to the main event.

It’s literally, Christmas come early.

So with that in mind I’m uber excited to showcase this years Smiggle advent calendar. It’s the sparkliest, funkiest, most colourful, delightfully scented advent calendar that has ever graced our home, or should that be back of the wardrobe where it’s currently hidden.

And I have to say, I have visions of the girls excitement tearing into these daily treats and squealing with excitement over the goodies inside. Smiggle, every day for a month. How cool is that?!

This years calendar contains 25 standardly fabulous Smiggle items of stationary including (spoiler alert)

  • 1 x Silicon Bag Tag
  • 1 x Cloud Eraser
  • 1 x Pencil
  • 1 x 15cm Ruler
  • 1 x Pencil Tube
  • 1 x Scented Sticker Pack
  • 1 x Rainbow Pen
  • 1 x Fan Eraser
  • 1 x Spy Pen
  • 1 x Lanyard
  • 2 x Mini Gel Pens
  • 1 x Mini Stapler
  • 1 x Sharpener
  • 1 x Glitter Glue
  • 1 x Rainbow Pencil
  • 1 x Multi Eraser Pen
  • 1 x Mini Markers Pack x5
  • 1 x Slapband
  • 1 x Paperclip
  • 1 x Notebook Keyring
  • 1 x Ice Cream Pen
  • 1 x Mini Colouring Pad
  • 1 x Stax On Highlighters
  • 1 x Pencil Case

That’s extreme advent right there.

At an RRP of £28 (currently £25 or 2 for £45) it’s actually pound for product great Smiggle value and ticks plenty more nutritional value than a load more sugar (we’ll all be having enough of that in the run up to Chrimbo).

There’s also a lucky ticket draw so your little ones could end up with a £500 spend up in Smiggle…the stuff of dreams.

The huge box is covered in the usual Smiggle style art work – adorable, cute, magical and of course, with a festive snow globe theme.

So I get it. I really do. The dream advent calendar for any little girl (or boy) who deserves an extra special Christmas. I’ve heard of these legendary advent calendars on the Mum circuit and I’d made a mental note to investigate them further this Christmas. They are after all the Kardashians of the advent calendar world. And I was that Mum who ate her words about never getting one of those elves (oh hi snowglow).

Now I have to be honest, I like nice things. I seem to have passed on my love of nice things to my daughters, who also clearly, love nice things.

But if 2019 taught me anything, it’s that there is one thing that tops having nice things, and that? It’s doing nice things.

That’s why I am donating this advent calendar to our local hospice, so that perhaps 25 little faces can share the love from this fabulous gift. Kids that really need a smile and a giggle, and a little shared joy this Christmas.

I guess 27 years of watching The Muppets Christmas Carol every Christmas taught me a thing or two about Christmas spirit after all.

One more year of paper advent calendars won’t hurt the muddling through family, will it?

Just don’t tell the girls.
